A beautiful drive from Ardales along the El Burgo road, over the Sierra del Nieves takes you to the beautiful town of Ronda . It is situated in an unlikely situation split in twon on a rocky outcrop 740m above sea level and joined by the Puente Nuevo ( New Bridge ) which spans the Tajo (gorge).
To the south of Puente Nuevo lies the older part of town known as La Ciudad and to the north, the newer town called El Mercadillo, where the majority of the restaurants and hotels can be found.
A fascinating trip right down to the water in the gorge can be found at the “Casa de Roy Moro and La Mina” next to the Bull Ring. From the gardens at the top stairs descend into the base of the gorge . If you cross the bridge and take the road on the right you will find another garden from which a path also leads down into the gorge, This provides an extraordinary view of the bridge and the way that the town teeters on the edge of the cliff.
In 1785 the bullring, the “Plaza de Toro’s” opened. This is one of the oldest in Spain and regular bullfights still take place.
